Singing Career
Roy Rogers was a famous singer. He starred in almost 100 films during the 1930's, 40's, and 50's. He teamed up with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer to start a music group.
Roy Rogers went through several names throughout is life. When his band was called the Pioneer Trio he called himself Dick Weston. In 1937 he changed his name to Roy Rogers and he got offered a seven year film contract.
He was cast to replace Gene Autry his rivalry and Roy Rogers surpassed him at the box office. In the era that western music was popular Roy Rogers became known as the King of The Cowboys. With his entertainment people started making childrens toys and cereal brands. He worked so hard to get to where he was now, he said "I am an introvert at heart ... and show business - even though I've loved it so much - has always been hard for me". Roy said that "you couldn't beg, borrow, or steal a job in 1931, 1932.... it was really tough". Roy Rogers was refering to the Great Depression.
